R75/SS

This R 75 was built as a period correct 1971, street legal Cafe Racer. In typical San Jose BMW style this R 75 build went straight from the shop to the salt. This bike set a world record at the Bonneville Salt Flats of 130mph, in the 750cc, pushrod, gas, unfaired class, ridden by none other then our parts manager Bill Asquith.

Looks aside, most of the work was inside the engine:

  • Crank – Knife edged, polished and re balanced
  • Connecting rods – Carrillo short rods
  • Oil pump – Smaller than stock
  • Pistons – Short, lightweight, 10.6:1 by CP
  • Heads – Ports raised and reshaped, dual plug
  • Valves – 45mm intake, 36mm exhaust
  • Camshaft – Higher lift, longer duration
  • Carbs – 36mm Mikuni
  • Exhaust – Hand built with restrictors
  • RPM limit – 8800
